Ingredients

  • 1 28 oz can of your favorite brand of crushed tomatoes
  • 5 cloves of garlic, chopped (little more or less depending on how much you love garlic!)
  • 1 tablespoon red chili flakes (scale back to just a pinch or omit altogether if you’re not into spicy sauce)
  • 8-10 Basil leaves, roughly chopped
  • 3 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Set a heavy bottomed pot to medium-low heat.
  2. Coat the pot with olive oil and add garlic immediately so that the garlic heats up with the olive oil.
  3. Stir garlic occasionally.
  4. When the garlic is fragrant and becoming slightly golden, add the tomato sauce.
  5. Fill the tomato sauce can up halfway with water and swirl it around, until the left behind sauce is captured and add to the pot.
  6. Add the crushed red chili flakes, and salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Raise the heat to medium high and bring sauce to a boil.
  8. Once boiling, set the heat medium low so that it is at a gentle simmer.
  9. Add basil leaves.
  10. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes until sauce is nice and thick.
  11. Enjoy!
